Cass County Sheriff Devron Ohrn visited us at the end of March as well. Devron spoke about his journey to becoming the sheriff. He started college wanting to be a lawyer, but found it boring. He discovered that he liked change and being a police officer is different each day because you never know what will happen!
Devron says that being the sheriff is a fun job, but a tough job. He gets to drive the cars, interact with people, and he strives to be “the best part of someone’s worst day.” But the job is also very frustrating at times, it sometimes haunts him, and he has to switch gears regardless of how he is feeling. By taking the time to talk to people, understand what they are going through, and truly caring, Devron is striving to change peoples opinions of police.
Students were able to ask questions. There was the typical “How fast can I drive without getting a ticket?” “What’s the worst thing you’ve seen?” “Have you shot anyone or been shot?” Devron also talked to the students about the path to becoming a police officer, what to do when pulled over, and how much more in-depth cases and situations have become. He also reminded them that nothing disappears…like their Snapchat’s!
We truly appreciated Devron coming to speak with us - especially so early in the morning.
